This memorial walk is to honor Martin R. Britton, Vice-President of the UpState PathFinders who passed away, December 5, 2017 after a massive stroke. Martin’s mother-in-law, Lyla McDaniel will open the event with a few words before handing it over to AVA’s President, David Bonewitz. Followed with a Meritorious Service Award presentation by the Southeast Regional Director, John McClellan.
- Martin distinguished himself by providing seven years of outstanding service to the UpState PathFinders Volksmarch Club and to AVA. His service included:
Webmaster/graphic designer for the UpState PathFinders from its’ inception through-2017. As the club’s webmaster/graphic designer, he won a first-place award for club websites in the 2013 Publicity Contest. He also won a first-place award for Club logo and a second-place award for Event Brochure in the 2015 Publicity Contest.
- In 2014, Martin’s design for the “Time to Walk” patch was accepted on a national level. Also, on the national level, he designed and worked on the “Time to Vote” slogan for the 2017 Presidential Election. • Martin’s artistic talents were called upon again to design the 401k Invest in Your Health logo.
The walk begins at McPherson Park, the oldest city park in Greenville, SC. You enjoy the diversity of our pedestrian-friendly downtown along Main St., with its vibrant mix of classic and modern architecture and much more. In the heart of the Historic West End is Fluor Field, home of the Boston Red Sox’s, A – affiliated team, the Greenville Drive and 2017 South Atlantic League Champions. The outfield is a replica of Boston’s Fenway Park including the Green Monster, a manual scoreboard, and a Pesky’s Pole in right field. Trail Rating: 1A -5/10K

Refreshments: Water provided at Start/Finish.
Food: We stop at Sticky Fingers for their famous Memphis-style award-winning rib combo buffet, ribs and smoked chicken served with barbecue baked beans, cole slaw, peach cobbler, and Sticky Fingers barbecue sauces. Rib combo buffet for $12 or you can order off of their menu at cost. Drinks are also at cost.
Restrooms: Available at Start/Finish and along the Main St.
T-shirt: Martin’s last t-shirt design with “Come Walk With Us” logo on the back. Cost $18. If you have not pre-ordered, first come, first serve at the event.
